MOROTO – A police constable attached to Nakilora police post in Rupa Sub-County in Moroto district has committed suicide after noticing that he was HIV/Aids positive.

Mr. Jude Nasucha, the district police commander Moroto confirmed the death of Samuel Opio describing it as unfortunate.

Mr. Nasucha suspected that Opio could have ended his life due to a lot of stress caused by death of his wife and also when he learnt that he was to live with the HIV/Aids for the entire of his life.

Mr. Nasucah said Opio died on November 12 at the police post where he was deployed.

“Opio’s colleagues found his body hanging from inside one of the houses near to the police post in Nakiloro trading centre,” he said.

He advised other officers to always seek for guidance and counselling from other people instead of committing suicide.

“Committing suicide is not the best way of solving problems surrounding you but you must seek guidance and counselling,” he said.

The deceased will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Napak district in Karamoja subregion.
