KAMPALA – Parliament has tasked the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng to explain the absence of a CT- scan machine at Mulago National Referral Hospital after complaints arose that patients are being forced to seek services from private facilities.
The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga following a matter raised by Hon. Onesmus Twinamasiko (Bugangaizi East) that people are losing lives at the national referral hospital due to absence of a CT-scan machine which is required in medical examination especially for head injuries sustained in accidents.
He alleged that whenever patients with such injuries are taken to Mulago, the hospital refers them to private facilities which charge between UGX200, 000 and UGX500, 000 for the services. The MP requested the government to intervene by providing a new CT scan for the national referral hospital.
The submission prompted Speaker Kadaga to ask the Minister of Health to give a statement on the issue on Tuesday December 3.
