KAMPALA – The Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Crime Intelligence (CID) headquartered in Kibuli, Kampala has freed city socialite Brian Kirumira, aka Bryan White, more than four days after the ‘tycoon’ was detained for defaulting on massive loans.
Bryan White has secretly returned to his Buzinga-based home.
He also declined to talk to the press about charges and terms of release.
Bryan While was detained at Kibuli last week after the security forces raided the socialite’s home and impounded two vehicles including a luxurious Mercedes Benz Cross Country on allegations that he acquired it fraudulently.
The third car was tracked and intercepted along Entebbe Road.
Allegations against him included obtaining goods by false pretense, extorting officials, failure to pay rent, fraud among others.
It was later revealed that Bryan White was arrested on the orders of Capt Mike Mukula the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Eastern Uganda after he allegedly bought the latter’s luxurious cars and failed to pay back. He spent the night in the coolers.
But following negotiations between the two, the socialite agreed to pay Capt Mukula the money, with an agreement to clear the balance soon.
“Humility is a virtue! I have resolved all outstanding issues with Brian White-Kirumira as patriots and nationalists. Chapter CLOSED,” Mukula tweeted on Saturday.
Mr. Kirumira was later rearrested after his landlord also appeared at CID and asked police officers to help him get his UGX500 million in rent arrears and also evict him from his home.
It is not immediately clear whether the socialite has paid the outstanding rent arrears to his landlord, who was so bitter on the weekend.
Bryan White also is reportedly had become a poster boy for defaults on massive loans exceeding UGX 1 billion in unpaid money.
