NAPAK – Shock gripped the leaders of Napak District in Karamoja region after two ministers survived being hit by a collapsing tent.

The two ministers, Mr. John Byabagambi for Karamoja Affairs and Ms Mary Gorreti Kitutu, the State Minister for Environment were on Tuesday, October 15, in Matany Primary School during the celebrations to mark Global Hand Washing Day almost hit when a sharp wind pulled the tent where they were seated.

Interestingly, of the six erected tents at the venue, only the one occupied by the ministers was blown away.

Mr. Mathew Lokol one of the organisers described the incident as regrettable.

Ms Kitutu said the incident is a result not having trees in the region, emphasising that Karamoja needs affirmative action on tree planting.

“Trees act as windbreakers, so we need to work hard and replant trees,” she said.

The incident caused chaos which lasted about forty minutes until the guests settled in another tent.

Napak District is hosting the Global Hand Washing celebrations.

The event is celebrated every 15th day of October and this year the theme is Clean Hands For All.
