KASAGAMA — Former Inspect General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has on Tuesday October 1, 2019 been pictured at with government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo at the latter’s farm in Kasagama, Lyantonde in a jovial mood as US government sanctions lurk.

Without giving details of the meeting, Ofwono Opondo posted pictures of the humbled General that have since gone viral also showing Kayihura’s house that has since shocked netizens.

“Travelled today to Kasagama, Lyantonde to visit Comrade Gen. Kale Kayihura at his farm. 41 acres of banana and still planting on 361 acres. He is living a simple life rearing goats and growing chilli,” Opondo wrote on his Twitter page.

Gen. Kayihura was sacked as police chief last year, later charged with failing to protect war materials, failing to supervise police officers and abetting kidnaps in the court Martial.

To make matters worse, he was, together with his family slapped with travel and economic sanctions by the US government two weeks ago.

But government and President Museveni have since downplayed the impact of the sanctions to Kayihura and Uganda’s economy.

Responding to US sanctions on Gen Kayihura last weekend, President Museveni said no Ugandan will ever be handed over to any foreign powers or authorities for trial.

“Ordinarily, the USA does not communicate its investigations, findings or sanctions to individuals on their watch-list but it is until such a person attempts to travel there or tries to transfer money from the USA,” a source said.

Mr. Museveni is now relying on China for military and other financial aid, a move sources said has rubbed the Americans the wrong way.

Commenting on the same Ofwono Opondo claimed that U.S slapping travel ban and sanctions against Former IGP Kayihura is uncalled for, and that “ it’s useless after all no one is interested in U.S matters.”

He added that Uganda is an Independent Sovereignty State which can sort out it’s internal affairs.

“Gen. Kayihura never killed anyone, he never tortured anyone, Nalufenya was a Gazetted detention center like others. We is aware of Opposition politicians behind painting our country with a bad image to account for the donor funds from colonialists to destabilize our Peace.”

“Gen. Kayihura is innocent. You can’t just sit in America and make Judgement against the whole country based on cheap propaganda from selfish Opposition. If they have evidence why did they not send it he face the law in our courts of law ?”

It is not clear whether Ofwono Opondo’s meeting with Kayihura had the US sanctions on the agenda.
