KAMPALA – Artiste Eddy Kenzo has revealed that he will not campaign for any political party, including fellow singer-turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Kenzo was on the campaign trails of President Museveni in 2011 and Bobi Wine in 2016 but addressing a press conference in Kampala on Thursday, October 31, 2019, he said that he has resolved to opt-out of politics.

“Mr. Kyagulanyi is my friend but I will never campaign for him again. I will support him and vote for him but won’t campaign for him. I will never jump onto any platform to convince people for him unless he has himself convinced people of what he is capable of doing,” he said.

“I campaigned for him (Bobi Wine) in Kyadondo but for president, I won’t. He must convince people he is the best. I will not campaign for any other person. I am a person who must bring together people.”

The artiste addressed the press on the back of his winning an award in the US, which led him to meet the President on Monday this week.

The singer revealed that whereas meeting President Museveni was a dream come true for him, it would not compromise his political beliefs. However, he also said he is not ready to fight the government.

“I don’t think I made a wrong decision and I am so blessed. I thank God for it. I met him and we exchanged many things. I celebrate it(meeting) as an achievement,” Kenzo said.

“I am not ready to fight the government. I can’t be against a person that God chose. He is the one who knows why He is in that place. I don’t think am ready to fight with the state. If you respect God, you must respect the leader and if you respect parents, respect elders. I could not resist the call because he is the leader of this country. He is a parent and his authority was given by God,” he added.

The artiste also revealed that he will attend the introduction ceremony of his former lover and fellow musician Rema Namakula if invited.

Kenzo said while he still broken-hearted over the break-up, he is ready to support his “life friend Namakula”.

“If I am invited to Rema Namakula’s introduction ceremony in good faith, I will go and support my life friend Namakula as I know it is a ‘gown’ she has always wanted. No-one knows Rema like I do, I have spent five years with her – eating and sleeping together,” he said.

“I am single, heartbroken and confused, but not searching because I am still angry,” he added.
