KAMPALA – Senior presidential adviser on Media Affairs John Nagenda has said none of the opposition leaders such as Bobi Wine, Kizza Besigye and Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu have the potential to lead the country.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, October 24, Mr Nagenda instead heaped praise of President Museveni whom he said is the only one with the potential of being a leader of Uganda.

For Bobi Wine, he said: “When I meet Bobi Wine, I’d advise him not to exaggerate his importance which he does. He should be his own man because going to other people is dangerous.”

He also revealed that Mr Museveni will easily win in 2021 because there are no serious challengers.

“I’m amazed at how President Museveni leads the country. The older he gets, the more I like him. When he wins in 2021, which he will do easily, we shall then think of who will take over. He is a very special person,” he added.

Mr Nagenda also dismissed claims that Museveni is corrupt.

“My boss isn’t a thief, be assured that he does what he does for his country. He likes and enjoys the power and I can’t blame him,” he added.

Mr Nagenda also admitted that there is a lot of mafia in the country who perpetuate corruption.

“We do have mafias. I used to think that the time Amin was in power was the worst but today, corruption is higher, it is terrible.  Vote rigging is very much exaggerated. Messy as it is, I still want the NRM to retain power. The older I get, the more I love Uganda. I’m, however, ashamed about the level of corruption.’

“I’d like President Museveni to groom someone democratically for the job of the presidency. However, It is very difficult to think of somebody else when you have someone like Museveni,” he added.
