Bishop Otim’s funeral programme released

KAMPALA – The deceased Bishop Emeritus of Lango Diocese, Melchizedeki Otim, will be laid to rest at All Saints Cathedral, Boroboro in Lira District on Sunday, October 20.

According to a tentative programme released by the family and the church, there will be a vigil at Peter and Martha Ojede’s home in Namuwongo, Kampala on October 14.

On Tuesday, October 15, a funeral service will held for the deceased at All Saints Church, Nakasero

On Wednesday, October 16, there will be a funeral service at St Thomas Church in Apac District. On Thursday, October 17, a vigil will he held at St Augustine Barogole.

On Friday October 19, the District Council will pay its last respects to Bishop Otim.

On Saturday 19th October 2019, Christians pay their last respect to the fallen Bishop and on Sunday, 20th October, the emeritus bishop will be laid to rest at All Saints Cathedral, Boro Boro

The Bishop Emeritus breathed his last at Uganda Heart Institute around 3am Wednesday morning.

Born in 1934, Otim was appointed and ordained the pioneer Bishop of Lango Diocese in 1976 by the late Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Janan Luwumu.

He served as the Bishop of Lango Diocese for 25 years until 2000 when he retired and was replaced by the Bishop Emeritus, John Charles Odur Kami in 2001.

Lira Municipality MP Jimmy Akena has described the fallen bishop as a committed servant of God who served his time diligently. Akena said the deceased led a principled life even after his retirement.

Otim’s daughter, Anne Alum Ogwal, said the deceased lived an outstanding life during and after his retirement from service. Bishop Otim is survived by eight children and a widow, Joyce Otim.

Bishop Otim’s last public appearance was about two years ago during the consecration of the third Bishop of Lango Diocese, Alfred Olwa at the diocesan headquarters.
