KYAMBOGO – The man, who was shot dead on Sunday morning by a security guard in Kyambogo near Kampala was not a student but a visitor who had come to see a girlfriend at the hostel, police have said.

Doribert Atwesigye, was shot dead by Araali Kizza, a security guard at Kabojja Hostel located in Banda 11, where he had gone to visit his girlfriend.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango, Atwesigye, 27, was shot dead by the security guard after the former refused to heed to the latter’s warning not to enter the hostel before 7am.

Atwesigye is said to have come to visit the girlfriend only identified as Ainomigisha, a third-year student.

“The young man was going to check on the girlfriend but before 7. Askari told him they don’t open gates before 7 am, he resorted to insults. The askari then shot him,” a witness who refused to be identified told this website.

Mr Onyango said the security guard has been arrested and a case of murder registered by the area police.

Meanwhile, cases of private guards shooting people dead have been rampant in the recent past with the most recent being an incident at Quality supermarket in Naalya.

In that incident, Anold Ainebyona Mugisha, was shot in the mouth by Moses Angoria, a security guard attached to Saracen security company while guarding at quality Supermarket.
