RUKIGA – A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 29-year-old Rwandan national in Kigara village, Kamwezi Sub-County in Rukiga District at the border with Rwanda.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesman Elly Maate identified the deceased as Augustine Kwizera who originated from Rwanda but was resident in Kigara Village.

Maate said that the deceased was hit by Anastus Munyabimbi aged 58 years following a misunderstanding.

“The deceased was rushed to Kamwezi Health Center IV where he was declared dead on arrival by medical authority,” Mr Maate said.

Mr Maate, however, said that the Police rushed to the scene of the crime, and the suspect was picked up for questioning.

Both Munyabimbi and Kwizera have lived in Kamwezi sub-county for more than 10 years and were known to be relatives since both originated from Rwanda.

Mr Maate said that while the body of Kwizera was handed over to his relatives for burial, the suspect was taken to Police for questioning.

The case has been registered under reference number SD 02/06/08/2019 to help in future Investigation.

He also ruled out any political differences as the cause of the fighting. The relations between Rwanda and Uganda have been fragile after Rwanda closed its border to Ugandan cargo trucks. Rwanda has continuously accused Uganda of arresting their people and holding them, sometimes incommunicado and without trial.
