BULOBA – A city businessman and his wife are nursing wounds at Mengo Hospital after they were hacked by iron-bar hitmen who raided their home in Buloba, Wakiso District in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Charles Kibuuka Mikisa, who deals in spare parts dealer at Park View arcade in downtown Kampala, was attacked by thugs, who broke into their posh residential home in Bwotansimbi-Kiweesa zone in Buloba Parish at about 2 am on Tuesday morning.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Kibuuka said the thugs, who were armed with hammers, machetes, knives, and other tools first beat up the security guard at their home and tied him up before they broke into the house and started harassing members of the family for almost an hour.

The thugs also dismantled the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera network at home to avoid being detected. They then accessed the room of the businessman and started intimidating him and his wife Immaculate.

“They demanded money and threatened to kill us if we made noise. I threw at them UGX3.5m, phone, and other items,” said Mr Kibuuka.

Mr Kibuuka’s son, Mr Henry Bbosa, added that he woke up and found a man had placed a machete on his neck.

“It was like I was watching a movie in my sleep, I saw a man standing by and had placed a pang on my neck. He warned me not to make noise or else he slaughters me,” he said.

He said the thugs took money in his bag, two laptops, and five television sets.

Mr Bbosa said they have since reported the incident to police.

Iron bar hitmen have become common in city suburbs. In October last year, thugs raided the home of an Arch Lwego, 44, and stabbed him to death in Najjera, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District

Lwego, the husband to Ms Dorah Asio, 40, who is CID Director Grace Akullo’s young sister, was stabbed 10 times as he tried to fight the goons that attacked their home at 3am.

In December 2017, the president of Uganda Medical Association (UMA) of doctors, Dr Ekwaro Obuku, was attacked at the gate of his home in Kitikifumba, Kiira Division at about 11 pm. Dr Obuku sustained some injuries in the base of the skull especially nasal area and bled a lot from the mouth and nose.

In October 2017, Adam Haibala Mulongo, a city lawyer, was killed at the gate of his home in Ntinda, a city suburb.
