KAMPALA – Kyadondo East Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has unveiled a team that will coordinate People Power activities ahead of the 2021 General elections, vowing that his political movement is stronger than President Museveni and his NRM party think.
Speaking at the function at his home in Magere, Kyadondo East in Wakiso District on Wednesday, Bobi Wine said the unveiling of the team is a testimony that People Power are a very organised group that can take the leadership of the country.
“On the onset, some people thought it was excitement but the people of Uganda have proven President Museveni wrong. People Power is stronger than the people in power, even when the people in power are determined to bring out gun power,” said the artiste-cum politician to cheers from his supporters.
“I appreciate you the people of Uganda for the hard work you do in the different parts of the country. I thank you for the positive reception you have given our message in the last two years. If you go to any part of the country, you’ll find houses filled with the message of People Power and that’s something to celebrate. I didn’t present myself because I’m the most qualified. I presented myself because I’m one of those Ugandans that want a better country. We set out to tell the county that people power is stronger than the people in power,” he added.
Bobi Wine also lauded his coordinators for standing strong in the face of state oppression.
“I want to salute the young men and women who despite the regime criminalizing the red beret have continued to wear it boldly and confidently. Go on. Don’t give up. The reason why we gather here today at my home in Magere and not at any hotel is because each of the hotels we attempted to book was ordered not to host us or face the consequences. We have moved from when this was just a dream to a powerful movement recognised all over the world,” he added.
On the list of coordinators unveiled by the Kyadondo East MP are several MPs from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the ruling NRM. However, he noted that since People Power is not a political party, any one is free to join him from other parties.
“I must assert that People Power is not a political party. It’s a movement that unites change seeking forces. We don’t care about your tribe or religion. And indeed we don’t care about your political affiliation,” he added.
