Two killed, 20 injured in Masaka road accident as Global Bus company is in spotlight

KAYABWE – At least two people have died and more than 20 survived with injuries in an accident that occurred at Kayabwe in Mpigi District along the Kampala-Masaka road on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened at around 8:30AM after a bus belonging to Global Bus Company registration number UBB 195M collided head-on with a sand truck that was headed to Lwera, registration number UAY 069W.

“Sad News, Fresh accident on Masaka- Kampala highway @ [at] Katonga near Kayabwe town head-on collision Global bus from Mbarara and Isuzu tipper, some have died on spot, please check on your family and friends who may have traveled with Global Coach from Mbarara this morning,” a social media post claimed.

Speaking to the media, Joseph Tulya, the acting police spokesman for Katonga region attributes the accident to over speeding by the bus driver.

The fate comes just a week after another accident involving the same bus company in Mpugwe, Kalungu.

The bus, heading for Kampala crashed into a house in Mpugwe after failing to brake, leading to the accident.

Recently, a video was leaked on social media showing a Global bus driver, a one Abdul speaking on phone while cruising at terrific speed with over 60 passengers on board.
