KAMPALA – The Directorate of Interpol and International Relations under the Uganda Police has in a two-day operation seized 5000 pieces of counterfeit products with a code name ‘FAGIA COPSON IV’.

The operation was conducted in the Kampala Metropolitan Area where items such as hardware products, cosmetics, beverages, electronics and petroleum products were seized.

According to the Acting Director Interpol and International Relations, SCP Oyo-Nyeko, counterfeit products and substandard goods pose a huge danger to the population and country at large as they affect both the economy as well as health of the final consumers.

Mr. Nyeko noted that there are huge amounts of such products in the open market.

He has assured the public that Police is waging a fight against counterfeit products by working with stake holders including consumers, brand owners, civil society and the government.

“I wish to state our commitment to ensure that brands are protected and safety of consumers guaranteed. It’s an offense to produce such products,” said Nyeko.
