PARLIAMENT – Youth from Mbale District have petitioned Parliament with prayers that Mbale is granted city status in the first phase of the process.

Meeting Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in her office on Monday, 17 June 2019, the youth, led by the Mbale Youth Council Chairperson, Yahaya Mwanje, said that they have been seeking for city status.

“Since April 2019, we have tried to seek an appointment to handover the petition to you personally but we failed. We are thankful that Mbale was considered to become a city but we were hoping that it will be in the first phase and not the second,” he said.

In May 2019, Cabinet approved the creation of 15 cities, in a phased manner, over the course of the next one to three years. Mbale is scheduled in the plan to attain city status on 1st July 2021.

The youth later celebrated Kadaga’s recovery and thanked Allah for his healing mercies.
