MUKONO – There has been pulling of ropes in a meeting of the District Council of Mukono on land issues where the district offices are found.

During the council quarterly meeting held on March, 30, the councillors could not agree on the way forward on how they should solve their land issue.

PML Daily understands that this land is being grabbed by other people.

The offices’ house the office of the Chief Administrative Officer, the district speaker, the chairperson and that of the vice chairperson, among others.

The councilors who were divided about the issue asked the chairperson Mr. Andrew Ssenyonga to go and discuss with that Mengo establishment to issue them with a lease title of the said land.

Mr. Emmanuel Mbonye, one of the councilors, said that they have to discuss with Buganda Land Board.

This piece of land, whose land title is among the 213 land titles that President Museveni officially returned to the Buganda Kingdom in Mengo in 2014, is the cause of this controversy.

This divided the councilors with some are urging not to give the chairperson to represent them in the discussion in Mengo while others supported it.

This led to vote counting with 15 members voting yes while 12 voted no for Mukono to discuss with the government of Mengo where Mr. Ssenyonga will be representing them at the meeting.

Mr. Ssenyonga said: “We are struggling for this piece of land with some people who got to know that our lease is over and they are also trying to get it.”

Mr. Ssenyonga thanked the council for accepting him to discuss with Mengo about the lease.
