KABAROLE – Five Uganda People’s Defence Forces-(UPDF) soldiers in Ntoroko district are detained at Muhoti Barracks in Kabarole district over the death of a 22-year-old civilian, Robert Akugizibwe.

The arrested include Wilfred Kilima, David Kyakulaba, Opio Damazio, Stephen Agaba and Samuel Akidri.

According to a source that preferred anonymity, Akugizibwe had a misunderstanding with Opio Damazio at a local bar in Haibale village, on Thursday night, leading to a fight between the two.

It is alleged that Damazio mobilized his colleagues from Habimbiri UPDF detach to arrest Akugizibwe. Although it is not clear how his life ended, his body was found in River Semuliki, the next day with missing body parts.

Captain Steven Tumwesigye, the Western Region UPDF spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and said the soldiers will be tried in the General Court Martial.
