Makerere starts issuance of graduation gowns, warns graduands on purchasing from ‘illegal’ vendors

Makerere declares graduation gowns purchased outside university illegal (FILE PHOTO)

Makerere The Academic Registrar department at Makerere University on Wednesday, December 4 announced to have started issuing of graduation gowns ahead of the week long 69th graduation scheduled from January 14 to 18, 2018.

According to a statement dated December 4, Mr Alfred Masikye Namoah, the academic registrar, informed those who have cleared all payments to pick up their graduation gowns.

“Issuance of graduation gowns for January 2019 has started at the basement of Senate Building near UBA Bank,” he wrote adding that “all graduands who have paid graduation fees including the gown should have their financial statements verified by the office of the university bursar.

Mr Masikye in a statement cautioned graduands not to procure any gowns outside the approved university vendor as such will be considered illegal.

The University in January that year collided with vendors over patented graduation gowns.

The university authorities went ahead to ask police to stop all ‘illegal’ vendors who were selling the same gowns relatively cheaper prices causing severe losses Makerere.

The vendors sold the ‘illegal’ gowns at Shs60 000 while the University official gown at Senate Building cost Sh.98, 000

From that background, Mr. Masikye, has warned students against purchasing gowns from other places apart from the designated office at Senate basement saying they will not be considered.
