


KAMPALA – After spending 2 nights at Luzira prison and two months in police custody, Susan Namata, 21, a woman who was charged with offences relating to insulting the person and privacy of his Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been granted bail.
Grade one magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis has ordered Namata to pay cash Shs 600,000 after finding her mother Jessica Nambiru and maternal aunty Rose Nampala as substantial sureties who will ensure her return to court.
Through her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde court heard that Namata is entitled to bail as her constitutional right, the offence she is charged with is bailable and has a fixed place of abode.
Namata a resident of Najeera in Kiira Municipality – Wakiso district was on Wenesday charged with two counts which include cyber harassment and offensive communication.
It’s alleged that in August 2018 within Kampala and Wakiso districts during protests to free the Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka “Bobi Wine from Makindye Millitary police barracks;
Namata with others still at large used a computer to record a video in which they referred to president Museveni as “Buttocks, Feaces and also threatened to throw their genitals in his teeth if he doesn’t order for Bobi Wine’s release .
That Namata willfully and repeatedly uploaded and distributed her obscene video on Watssup which according to prosecution disturbed the peace and privacy of the president.
According to the court records Namata a resident of Najeera in Kiira Municipality- Wakiso district was on August 27, 2018 tracked down by officers at CPS using her phone contact and she has since been in police custody .
Namata returns to Court on the November 23, for mention.
