RPC Bakaleke’s co-accused granted bail

KAMPALA- The Anti-Corruption court has granted a cash bail of Shs7 million to five police officers who are facing charges of abuse of office, kidnap, Conspiracy to defraud and commit a felony.

The six officers are facing the charges together with the former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke who has since defied the court order to appear and answer the charges against him thus court issuing a warrant of arrest.

The five are D/ASP Robert Munezero 31, D/ASP Innocent Nuwagaba 32, including three police constables Junior Amanya 28,  Gastavas Babu 27 and,  Kenneth Zirintusa 26.

Grade one magistrate Moses Nabende of the Anti-Corruption Court has issued a warrant of arrest against the former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke who is facing charges.

However court declined to grant D/AIP Robert Asiimwe Ray 37 bail for lack of sureties,

Others are a city lawyer, Paul Mugoya Wanyoto 35 whose criminal summons have been extended after the court heard that he was out of the country and a businessman, Samuel Nabeta Mulowooza 30, the managing director of EYEPOWER Engineering Company.

The group had appeared before grand one magistrate Moses Nabende to have their charges formally read to them and they denied them.

Prosecution states that Mr Bakaleke, Mr Munezero ,Mr  Nuwagaba ,Mr Asiimwe ,Mr Amanya ,Mr Babu  and ,Mr Zirintusa and others still at large between February 4 and 11, 2018 in Kampala while employed in the Uganda Police Force in various ranks and appointments did or directed to be done arbitrary acts prejudicial to the interests of their employer or of a one Jang Seungkwon in abuse of the authority of their offices by causing the said Jang to be wrongfully arrested and confined.
