KAMPALA– The General Court Martial (GCM) has charged and remanded a group of 7 people including a retired soldier at the rank of corporal with counts of murder and aggravated robbery.
Retired UPDF CPL Paul Kiwanuka, Derrick Jjumba, John Bosco Waligo, Matia Kizza Bukenya , Stephen Kayemba, Julius Tweheyo and Gerevazio Kankaka have allegedly been notorious for staging robbery attacks in the districts of Masaka and Kyotera .
The group that is believed to be part of the wider panga welding men in the greater Masaka district, appeared before the GCM, chaired by Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti who charged them with killing several people in Masaka and robbing an SMG rifle which they allegedly used in turn to rob over Shs435m from a one Moses Kalisa alias Muto in Masaka district.
The suspects were arrested last month after robbing shs 435 million from a Hardware shop belonging to Moses Kalisa.
Prosecution states that the suspects on July 1, 2018 at Mawogola Street in Masaka district, with Malice afore thought shot dead Moses Musinguzi who was working as a security guard at Moses. K Hardware shop and robbed him of an SMG gun with 30 rounds of ammunitions.
It is further alleged that the same group on the fateful day and at the same place also murdered Sharif Kiggundu, a casual labourer at the same hardware shop.
They have however pleaded not guilty to the offenses which prosecution led by Maj. Rapheal Mugisha has reported to be still under investigation to arrest more suspects who are still at large.
The accused have been sent on remand at Luzira prison until the September 25, 2018 .
