KAMPALA – Lawyers of the jailed bodyguard of Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine have written to the director CID Grace Akullo demanding for his unconditional release.
The lawyers from Kiiza & Mugisha Advocates representing Eddie Sebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe also threatened to sue individually Akullo, D/SCP Elly Woanya officer in charge of CID headquarters and the district police commander Moses Eliao for his illegal detention.
In their letter that was also copied into the chambers of the principal judge, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Uganda Human Rights Commission say that Sebuufu has been in detention since August 25, 2018, and he remains detained at Jinja Road Police station to date.
The lawyers accuse the police of telling lies to the attorney general that Sebuufu was on his way to Gulu court arraignment before a competent court to face charges of treason.
“High Court on August 30, 2018 ordered his production in court on September 4, 2018, you ignored the order only to mislead the attorney general and the honorable court that Eddie Mutwe was on his way to Gulu for arraignment before a competent court. The said lie is on court record per enclosed returned,”
The letter also states that the continued detention of their client is illegal and amounts to mental torture, undignified treatment and violation of his personal liberty and other freedom.
“The constitution enjoins you to observe respect protect and promote the fundamental human rights and freedom of Eddie Mutwe per Articles 20(2) and 221 of the 1995 Uganda Constitution,” the letter further states.
The lawyers also state that Eddie Mutwe associating with Bobi Wine has never been a crime.
