Senior police commissioner dies in a flight

ABU DHABI– The coordinator of national focal department on small arms and light weapons department in ministry of internal affairs, Commissioner Okello Makmot died in the flight.

According to a statement issued by the Internal Affairs Ministry, police commissioner Okello who had gone for training on small arms proliferation in the United States died on his way back to Uganda via Abu Dhabi, Dubai.

“We have received communication from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Ugandan Embassy in Abu Dhabi that Commissioner Okello died while in transit from New York, USA to Uganda via Dubai…,” reads the letter signed by Aggrey Winyi for the Internal Affairs Ministry, Permanent Secretary.

Mr Wunyi added that, “we have been requested to inform the relatives of the deceased and make arrangements for the body to be repatriated to Uganda.

Okello’s body is currently being kept in Dubai where the plane made a stopover following his ultimate collapse.

The Internal Affairs Ministry has since communicated commissioner Okello`s death to the Inspector General of Police (GP), Okoth Ochola.

“We look forward to working together to assist the family in this trying moment,” Wunyi added.
