Women protest the kidnap of fellow women, urge the IGP to explain

NAGURU: The youth and FDC women have been arrested as they attempted to petition the IGP Okoth Ochola over the increased cases of kidnap.

The protest, dubbed “women’s lives matter” campaign, championed by Dr. Stella Nyanzi, a senior advocate, ensued the effort to seek explanation on the increased prevailing kidnaps in the nation

Reports reaching this website confirm that 7 activists have been arrested outside Police headquarters in Naguru. Anti-terrorism and anti-riot police have been deployed to block the activists from accessing the office premises.

Among the arrested include; FDC Women’s League spokesperson, Buwembo Habibu, Godiva Monica Akullo and Patricia Twasiima Bigirwa – both feminist lawyers- Musiri David and Obed Derick and detained at Jinja road police station

Police beefed up security ahead of the demonstration Tuesday morning

Police has queried the activists -armed with coffins-  with a condition to abandon the demonstration for the release of their counterparts amidst security beef up at the Police Headquarters at Naguru, Kampala.

By the time of filing this reports, police confirmed that the activists were charged for unlawful assembly and later released on bond. Theprotest ensued on the women activists request for a meeting with the IGP which police dishonored as another woman, in her early seventies, was kidnapped in Namugongo

The Deputy Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango issued a statement Monday acknowledging that the IGP is willing to meet the women, however, at a later day.
