Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola on Tuesday appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Baryamwisaki acting director of the Police Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), replacing Amos Ngabirano who left the position under the reign of Gen Kale Kayihura.
In a statement, CP Yusuf Ssewanyana will deputise Baryamwisaki while Assistant CP Ezra Mujabwami was elevated to commissioner and assigned to head Maintenance in the ICT department of police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ahmed Wakwale was transferred from Kampala Metropolitan Police and appointed to be in charge of Communication at the police headquarters in Naguru.
ASP Abdallah Nabongo has been posted to KMP to head the ICT department.
Mr Ngabirano refused to renew his contract, which expired last month and left the Force.
His resignation followed several media reports that President Museveni had directed former IGP Gen Kayihura to fire Mr Ngabirano over alleged corruption.
Mr Ngabirano was recruited as a civilian into the police on the strength of his ICT skills and has been serving on contract basis, renewed after every years.
His exit came just days after President Museveni ordered the disbandment of the police procurement committee during a National Security Committee meeting at Entebbe over flouting procurement rules in the purchase of CCTV cameras whose installment is soon to be rolled out.
Mr Ngabirano was among those who asked to be relieved of his duties.
