MBALE-More than 20 health workers from Mbale Regional Referral Hospital yesterday raised their disastification against Umeme for failing to rectify the power black out which had left  them in darkness for nearly two weeks.

The irritated health workers, clad in their uniforms, early in the morning stormed Mbale Umeme offices demanding for an explaination from managers for taking such a long time to address their concern despite notifying them about the continued power black out.

“We notified Umeme about the problem that for the last two weeks, we totally had no power and yet we need to iron and lighting. They continued promising that they will come and when we realized that the promise was not forth-coming we decided to come ourselves to Umeme to getanswers,”one of the health workers said.

The block housing health workers is located in Mbale town, a few metres from Mbale hospital.

“We though Umeme had disconnected the block but to our surprise they told us there was a technical problem that needs rectifying” a health worker told PML Daily.

The health workers declined Umeme requests to return to work, demanding that engineers be sent immediately.

Mbale Umeme branch manager, Mr Paul Ssempira, said: “The block you [media] are talking about has power as of now. Ask them whether they don’t have power, and if not, we could start from there.”
