Uganda has recorded 1, 735 new COVID-19 cases over the past day, bringing the nationwide count to 60,250, the Ministry of Health announced Saturday.

The becomes Uganda’s highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day since the pandemic began —with Kampala alone registereing 1,117 cases.

Wakiso came second with 171 while Gulu recorded 111 cases. These  were closely followed by Mbarara, Luwero, Masaka, Kiryandongo, Tororo and Jinja

Others with higher numbers include Busia, Mukono, Soroti, Buikwe and Bugiri.

“Results of COVID-19 tests done on 10 June 2021 confirm 1,735 new cases. The cumulative confirmed cases are 60,250,” the Ministry of Health wrote.

Data from the Ministry of Health further indicated that the country recorded 15 deaths on Thursday, its highest number in a single, bringing the total number to 423.

Ministry of Health data shows the country had by Saturday morning cumulatively recorded 60,250 Covid-19 cases with at least 788 patients admitted to hospitals across the country.

Uganda is struggling with the entrance of other variants like the South African, Indian, and British mutants.

Uganda imposed Covid restrictions that include a ban on inter-regional travels, curfew between 21:00 to 05:30 and closure of learning institution.

The Ministry of Health announced early this week the end of the vaccination process citing the lack of enough jabs.

The Ministry of Health recently announced that all intensive care and high-dependency beds in the country were already occupied.
