KAMPALA – Self-styled Queen Karma, Sheebah Karungi has launched her own musical label dubbed ‘Karma Music’ to empower and give chance to talented Ugandans to have their shot at Uganda’s music industry.
Unveiling her label at a press briefing at The Terrace bar and restaurant in Kololo on August 16, Sheebah revealed that she has been mentoring people low key but believes now is the time to openly share her gift and talent.
“I am excited to launch my music label. This journey is not mine alone, it is ours. We need to empower our youth and push our talent to the next level,” she shared.
In search for the next stars that will be under her management, the Muwoomya singer announced that the search is on, and encouraged people to take it up in big numbers.
“If you want to be in the label, record a one minute video singing your favourite song, tag Karma Music and Sheebah Karungi on all social media platforms. The submissions start now for the next label’s big star,” she said.
Bearing her busy schedule, the singer said she will not be doing this alone as she has dedicated a team to manage the label’s work and also revealed that she will be working with Fik Fameica, Naava Grey, Chosen Becky and Artin Pro to judge the submissions.
“Music is my passion, mentoring someone will not feel like work, I will be doing what I enjoy. I have had this dream (of owning a music label) for some time but I needed to first understand the business I am delving in,” she explained.
On why it has taken her some time to launch her music label, Sheebah said she needed to gather the finances, the experience, and do thorough research about the venture.
“I can now use whatever resources available around me to nurture someone else. I am going to learn from my mistakes to protect and make my artists better so they can thrive. I am willing to fight for and protect them,” she added.
On whether she is working her way to retirement, Sheebah revealed that she just wants to share what she has gained over time with some talented individuals.
“I want to retire early but I cannot put a date or year to this. Diamond Platinumz has never won a BET Award but one of his artists did. I want to invest in an artist I can believe in and maybe they can even get to where I have never been.”
The former Team No Sleep artiste also shared that she is not going to limit the numbers but will ensure everyone signed under her label is well taken care of.
“I am going to teach my artists to be resilient. I am looking for big angry people who are ready to attack the industry. Karma Music will do everything for the artist. I want to protect my artists from the word go and I will have a lawyer to streamline their contracts as soon as I sign them.”
