KAMPALA – The formerly acting president of the Uganda Musicians Association and Mpaka Records CEO Wycliff Tugume alias Ykee Benda and Cinderella Sanyu Muyonjo have been fully sworn in as the new President and Vice President of the mucisians’ umbrella body respectively.

The duo was officially sworn on Tuesday in a ceremony that was held at Mestil Hotel, Nsambya in Kampala as Sophie Gombya handed over the office to pursue her political ambitions.

Benda replaces longtime female singer, Sophie Gombya who resigned for the position in June to fully concentrate on her political career.

Cindy also substitutes Ykee Benda who is now working as the new President of the association.

While swearing in, Ykee Benda and Cindy Sanyu promised to base their leadership on good leadership skills and proper service delivery.

UMA in a statement they issued to that effect, they emphasized how they are extremely expectant under the new leadership and also commended Sophie for steering the organization in her past remarkable services.

We look forward to a good leadership with these two at the top. We would like to also thank our outgoing president Sophie Gombya for everything she put in during her leadership and wish her the best in her new journey,” the statement read.

After the swearing in ceremony, Benda revealed that the highly debated Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) website was fully re-designed and launched last week.

UPRS is a body which collects artistes’ dividend from all music users (Radios, TVs, bars, beaches, restaurants, clubs, and online music sites, among other avenues) and in just a few weeks, artistes will be able to enjoy their loyalties.

“You will need your National ID, Email address, your phone, data of birth, label, and Payment model. We can do VISA, Mobile money, or bank, the website was launched last week, therefore we shall let you know when the registration shall begin,” Benda said.

The ‘Super man’ hit maker added that when all is done, the artists will then sit and have a general meeting to vote the board that shall run UPRS.
