DODOMA – Celebrated Tanzanian artist Nasibu Abdul alias Diamond Platnumz, is arguably one of the finest musicians of his generation in East Africa. The singer who also doubles as a dancer also has a recording label with a number of artists to his name.
News coming from the “Tetema” hit-maker’s camp is that the Wasafi Classic Records boss is on cloud nine celebrating reaching four million subscribers on his YouTube Channel.
The singer shared the blissful news via his social media platforms while expressing his happiness in an achievement that doesn’t just come by.
“4 Million Subscribers on Youtube!……Lisingewezekana Pasipo Nyinyi…. Tukutane BENJAMI MKAPA STADIUM niwape Shukran Zangu,” Diamond shared on his social media platforms,” he posted.
This achievement furthermore marks that the Tanzanian Bongo Flava star singer has consolidated his seat as Africa’s artist with the most subscribed to YouTube Channel beating the top guns in the industry.
Over the last 10 years, the award-winning musician has popularized “bongo flava” a uniquely Tanzanian offering: romantic melodies with an urban beat influenced by traditional taarab music from the East African coast.
And with more than 43% of Tanzania’s 55 million people having access to the internet, mainly via mobile smartphones, there is a huge home-grown Swahili-speaking audience ready to lap up his love songs. Other Tanzanian musicians like Harmonize are also huge on YouTube.
A month ago, Diamond Platinumz made history by becoming the first artist in sub-Saharan Africa to clock more than 1 billion views on his YouTube Channel.
Diamond posts his shows, both local and international, as well as behind the scenes clips of his music videos.
The most-watched videos on his channel include Yope remix, Nana, Inama and African Beauty.
Diamond was also recognized by Billboard as the first artist in sub-Saharan Africa to clock more than 1 billion views on his YouTube Channel.
