KAMPALA – Police at Jinja Road are holding a one Adome Jeremy/Ojok Jeremiah, 36, a close associate with socialite Don Zella for allegedly stealing 80,000 USD (over Shs300m) from Room number 107 at Speke Apartments, Wampewo.

The police say the money allegedly stolen belonged to socialite Sheila Don Zella alias Sheila Nandege, 36, who had booked the apartment for 30 days on the December 5th, 2020.

According to CCTV footage recovered from the apartment on December 24th 2020, the suspect, who is the same time a resident in the building, is seen accessing room 107 with another person yet to be arrested.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire in a statement on Wednesday said the suspect later fled to his home in Arua and the police used all relevant information available and was able to trace him to his home and arrested eventually.
Owoyesigyire explained that a sum of 60,000 USD counterfeit money had been recovered from the suspect and it has since been exhibited.”

Mr. Owoyesigyire further added that the suspect has since insisted that the exhibited money is what he stole from the room.

“Police are investigating these allegations. The police are also on the hunt for his accomplice, who was seen in the footage breaking into Room 107 at Speke Apartments.

“We call upon service providers to, at all time, monitor their security to avoid such incidents in the future,” Owoyesigyire said.

The struggling socialite had earlier on through her Lawyers Semuyaba Iga and Company Advocates had dragged Speke Apartments to Court seeking compensation amounting to Ugx 461million for damages caused.

She has since pulled down her social media post after evidence emerged that she had faked the robbery with her sister and close associate Ojok to tarnish the image of Speke Apartments.

This was after CCTV footage at Speke Apartments emerged showing how the three were connected and knew eachother.
