KAMPALA – As it draws to the grand finale, the Miss Tourism pageant has partnered with Uganda Airlines in a bid to boost tourism as the pageant braces for its first ever scientific crowning slated for this weekend.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday in Entebbe, Ms Sylvia Kaggwa, the Sales Manager of Uganda Airlines Entebbe office, the Miss Tourism ambassadors will help promote the national tourism initiative in the region and across the world as the airline expands its route network in Africa and beginning of intercontinental flights to Europe, Asia and Middle East with the delivery of Airbus A330 in December.
Mr Allan Kanyike the Chief Executive Officer Miss Tourism Uganda said this year’s theme dubbed ‘Beauty, Brains and Change’ (BBC) is aimed at encouraging Ugandan’s embrace local tourism.
“I want to encourage Ugandans to love and bless their home, let them visit a site and post it to promote who we are. Uganda is one country with so many tribes which are very identical,” he said.
Kanyike further urged Ugandans to promote their heritage to the world through tourism and encouraged them to focus on domestic tourism now more than ever.
Ms Carol Nalinnya, the Executive Director of Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, said the finalists will inspire more women to become empowered.
“Through promoting culture we shall preserve and also promote tourism, we have a lot of sites that have diverse culture and meaning to the rest of the people, within and outside Uganda” she said.
Ms Nalinya shared that the winner will be taken to all the Buganda sites and also get a chance to meet the Buganda premier Charles Peter Mayiga.
Across The Nations International Ministries (ATNIM)’s Dr Deborah Freeman, who is a member on the National Executive Board for Miss Tourism of Uganda urged pageant holders on the need to teach contestant the values of having inner beauty since there are a lot of people who look beautiful on the outside yet within they are not.
The five Tourism ambassadors that have been attending a boot camp recently in preparation for Sunday’s finale include, Jean Corprise Akullo, Amaniyo Charity, Kyomugisha Sonia, Agwang Prossy Permah and Atuheire Sheevon.
Ms Phiona Bridget Kyeru who was last year’s beauty queen from Busoga region was gifted with a land title and she is also set to receive her car on Sunday according to Kanyike.
