KAMPALA – Stanbic Bank Uganda has contributed UGX250M towards the MTN Marathon happening on Sunday 24 at Kololo Independence grounds.
“We are extremely proud to be partnering with MTN once again for the MTN Marathon 2019. Stanbic Bank Uganda has been key long-term partner and supporter of the MTN Kampala Marathon since its inception 16 years ago,” said the Stanbic Bank CE, Patrick Mweheire, at the cheque handover.
“This year, we have made a significant contribution of UGX250 Million towards the continued efforts to improve maternal health in Uganda. We have consistently supported the MTN Kampala Marathon because it aligns with Stanbic’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) vision and we hope that our support continues to transform lives in our communities,” he added.
The cheque was handed over to MTN Uganda CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte.
Last Month, MTN Uganda under theme “A GOOD REASON TO RUN” launched the 16th edition of the annual Kampala Marathon.
The proceeds from this year’s marathon will go towards improving maternal health services across the country.
“There are an estimated 336 deaths per 100,000 live births making Uganda’s maternal mortality one of the highest in the world. The proceeds from the marathon and regional runs will be used to upgrade/improve maternal services in health centre IV facilities across the country,” said Sen Somdev, MTN Uganda Ag. Chief Marketing Officer at the launch.
He added, “80% of the maternal and newborn deaths are preventable with the implementation of known evidence-based high impact interventions and these are the interventions that the proceeds from the marathon will be dedicated to implementing. And that’s a good reason to run.”
Huawei, New Vision, Rwenzori, and Spedag Interfreight also announced funding for the 2019 edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon.
