PARIS – Troubles for Facebook and YouTube are not about to end as the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) said that it was suing the internet giants.
AFP reports that CFCM said Monday, March 25, is suing Facebook and YouTube for allowing the public broadcast of a live video by the man who carried out the New Zealand mosque massacre this month.
According to the complaint, a copy of which was seen by AFP, the council said it was suing the French branches of the two tech giants for “broadcasting a message with violent content abetting terrorism, or of a nature likely to seriously violate human dignity and liable to be seen by a minor.”
Unprecedented massacre
According to local police, 50 people were killed and 50 others were wounded in a terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand a few days ago.
The unprecedented mass shootings were carefully planned, and shocked the usually peaceful nation. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the attack on as one of her country’s “darkest days.” She said that the suspects held “extremist views” that have no place in New Zealand or anywhere else in the world.
