KCB Bank Uganda hosted the Uganda leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour from 18 to 19 October 2024 at the Jinja Golf Club. Over 110 male and female golfers competed for a chance to participate in the Grand Finale of the East Africa Golf Tour, scheduled for 6 December at Sigona Golf Club in Kenya, fully sponsored by KCB Bank Uganda.
The overall winners were: Babirye Martha, playing off a handicap of 2, who scored a total of 222 gross points to win the women’s gross category; Cwinya-ai Joseph, the Ugandan national team captain, who scored a total of 209 gross points over 54 holes to win the men’s gross category; and Peace Hellen, playing off a handicap of 23, who won the bronze gross category with 180 gross points. Their outstanding performances earned them an all-expenses-paid trip to Nairobi, where they will represent Uganda in the KCB East Africa Golf Tour Grand Finale.
Martha, Joseph, and Hellen will be joined by 4 golfers from Lira, Arua, and Mbarara, where KCB Bank Uganda has also held various golf tournaments. In total, seven Ugandan golfers will compete for the grand prize of 1 million KES, equivalent to 27 million Ugandan shillings, in the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.
The event was graced by the presence of Owekitibwa Mutamba Hellen, Minister of Tourism and Heritage for the Busoga Kingdom, who expressed her admiration for the golfers’ dedication to the sport. She applauded the women golfers for their passion and resilience, encouraging them to continue breaking barriers and using golf as a platform to empower women. Her inspiring words emphasized the crucial role of women in shaping the future of golf, both within the kingdom and beyond.
