Uganda’s agony at the Tokyo Olympics continued on Tuesday morning as two more athletes were sent packing.

Middle distance runner Ronald Musagala and sprinter Shida Leni were the latest Ugandans to bow out of the games after falling short in the Men’s 1500m and Women 400m respectively.

Musagala could not finish his semifinal-heat as he was taken off the field on a wheelchair after sustaining an injury.

On the final lap of heat 3, Musagala who was one of three runners to not finish, appeared to have pulled a hamstring and fell to the ground.

For, she Leni posted a time of 52:46 to finish 6th in heat three.

Sixth place was not good enough to reach the semis as only the first three in each heat and the next six fastest (in all heats) progressed further.

Leni is the first Ugandan-Women sprinter since Justine Bayiga (2008) to participate at the Olympics.

However, her dream of winning Uganda her first medal at the distance could not be full-filled.

Musagala and Leni join an ever-increasing list of Ugandans who have been eliminated from the games. Kirabo Namutebi, Kathleen Noble Grace, Catherine Nanziri, David Ssemujju, Shadir Musa Bwogi, Ambala Atuhaire, Albert Chemutai, Sarah Chelenget, Esther Chebet, Prisca Chesang, Winnie Nanyondo and Halima Nakaayi have already packed their bags.
