KAMPALA – The Federation of Uganda Football Associations – Fufa on Saturday called-off all scheduled fixtures of the Uganda Premier League – UPL in response to the Presidential directive to suspend all sports activities in the country.
The decision found Express FC glued onto the top of the table after 58 points, one ahead of URA SC and two above Vipers SC after 26 outings, respectively.
Vipers – the defending champions – benefited from a similar situation – after Fufa awarded the Kitende based side the trophy from the board and should the Covid-19 pandemic escalate to threaten Ugandans – The Red Eagles will, too, be crowned through a boardroom decision to beat Caf’s deadline in submitting the country’s representatives in continental club competitions.
The announcement of the postponement on Saturday put away two match-days that were scheduled on the very day and the following Sunday – as Busoga United was set to face URA; Vipers could have played Onduparaka FC.
Fufa Communications Director Ahmed Hussein said further guidance on when the league would resume, would be communicated.
“All UPL matches scheduled for Saturday – June 19, 2021 and Sunday June 20, 2021 have been postponed; Fufa will give further guidance on the remaining match days in the near future,” noted Hussein.
