Uganda’s U-20 football team- The Hippos beat Tunisia 4-1 to reach the final of afcon U-20 in a match played at Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Mauritania on Monday night.
Police FC player, Derrick Kakooza went into the scoresheet with the tournament’s first hattrick after Richard Basangwa had led the way, fouth minutes into play.
Kakooza was on target once in the 36th minute; repeating five minutes after recesss and 17 to full time.
The Monday night Hippos’ win created a situation, lesser than the 1978 Nations Cup final where The Cranes lost 0-2 to Ghana in Kumasi – the best performance Uganda has ever attained. Ghana beat Gambia 1-0 to reach the final.
“We spent days focusing on how to stop the Tunisians. It wasn’t easy for us but God was on our side. We tried to prevent them from possessing the ball. It was challenging to play against one of the Africa strongest teams but our game plan worked for us,” Fufa official website, quoted The Hippos – coach Morley Byekwaso as saying.
Uganda will play Ghana in the final on Saturdayat the Stade Olympque in Nouakchott.
