NOUAKCHOTT – Uganda’s U-20 – the Hippos beat Mozambique 2-0 on Monday to brighten chances of advancing into the knockout stages of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The Hippos’ group A opening game at the Stade Olympique, Nouakchott City, Mauritania, saw the Hippos net through Derrick Kakooza, before second half substitute Steven Sserwadda added another to write-off the Mozambiquans.

Uganda dominated play and creating numerous chances but their challenge was in the final third.

Kakooza, Richard Basangwa and Ivan Bogere who led the attack were too close but shy in finishing as they kept the Mozambiquan goalkeeper busy.

The Hippos next play on Wednesday against Cameroon who beat hosts Mauritania 1-0.
