What You May Have Missed: Real, Juve, Bayern, PSG win as Barca falter again

The top five European Leagues continued this past weekend with action in England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

In Spain, Real Madrid registered their 5th victory of the season thanks to a 4-1 victory at home to Huesca on Saturday. Karim Benzema struck a brace either side of Eden Hazard and Franco Valverde’s goals. The three points ensure Real remain second on the log, a point behind leaders Real Sociedad who thumped Celta Vigo 4-1 on Sunday..

For Barcelona, they were held to a 1-1 draw on Saturday by Deportivo Alaves with Philipe Coutinho salvaging a point in the second half. Barca drops to 12th after gathering only 8 points from their first 6 games.

In the other games, Cadiz continued their fine start to life in the La Liga with a 2-0 victory away to Eibar on Friday.

On Saturday, Athletic Bilbao came from a goal down to beat Sevilla 2-1 while Atletico Madrid were 3-1 victors away to Osasuna.

On Sunday, Real Betis powered past 3-1, 10-man Granada drew 1-1 at home to Levante as Valencia and Getafe shared spoils in a 2-2 contest at the Mestalla.

Villarreal and Real Valladolid will square off on Monday night.

In Italy, Juventus snapped a two-game winless run with a 4-1 victory away to Spezia on Sunday. Star-player Cristiano Ronldo came off the bench to score twice, after Alvaro Morata had handed the Old Lady the lead. The result sees Juve climb into 3rd with 12 points from 6 points.

On the same day, AC Milan maintained their unbeaten start to the Serie A season thanks to a 2-1 victory away to Udinese with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring the winning goal, seven minutes from time, Milan now have 16 points out of a possible 18.

Second place is currently occupied by Atalanta who scraped to a 2-1 victory away to Crotone. Luis Muriel scored both goals that see Atalanta sit just two points behind Milan.

In the other games, Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Parma while Bologna beat Cagliari 3-2.

On Sunday, Lazio scored two injury-time goals to beat Torino 4-2, Napoli lost 2-0 at home to Sassuolo, Roma defeated Fiorentina 2-0 while Sampdoria drew 1-1 at home to Genoa.

Benevento’s visit to Hellas Verona will take place on Monday evening.

In Germany, Bayern Munich climbed top of the standings thanks to a 2-1 victory away to Koln. Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry scored the goals for Hans Flick’s side who now have 15 points.

Bayern are now top of the Bundesliga.

Joining them on 5 points is Borussia Dortmund who had Matts Hummels’ double to thank as they defeated Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 on Saturday.

On the same day, Hans Wolf scored the only goal of the games as Borussia Monchengladbach subjected RB Leipzig to their maiden loss of the season. Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 at home to Werder Bremen while Augsburg beat Mainz 3-1.

On Friday, Schalke 04 drew 1-1 with Stuttgart while on Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Freiburg 4-2 as Wolfsburg drew 1-1 away to Hertha Berlin.

On Monday, Hoffenheim will host Union Berlin in the only game of the day.

In Ligue One, PSG maintained top spot thanks to a dominant 3-0 victory away to Nantes on Saturday with Ander Herrera, Kylian Mbappe and Pablo Sarabia scoring the goals. PSG now have 21 points from 9 games and they sit just two points ahead of second-placed Lille who drew 1-1 at home to Lyon on Sunday.

In the other games, Rennes scraped to a 2-1 victory at home to Brest, Saint Etienne were beaten 1-0 by Montpellier, Nice defeated Angers 3-0 away from home, Dijon and Lorient drew 0-0, Monaco humiliated Bordeaux 4-0, Reims were 2-1 winners at home to Strasbourg while Metz powered past Nimes 1-0.

Olympic Marseille’s clash at home to Lens, on Friday, was postponed.
