MBARARA – Mbarara City duo of defender Stephen Othieno and goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba have signed contract extensions at the Kakyeka based side.

It is understood that both players signed three-year extensions with the clubs.

According to Swift Sports, the deals were confirmed on Tuesday, June 9.

The deals for Ssekeba and Othieno see Mbarara tie down threw players to long term deals, this close season, after Jude Ssemugabi did likewise earlier this month.

The two were key in Mbarara City’s promotion back to the Uganda Premier League in 2016/17.

Back then, Ssekeba was back up to Thomas Ikara while Othieno was the club’s first choice right back.

Despite the extension of the trio’s contracts, Mbarara City are on the verge of losing striker Brian Ahebwa.

Ahebwa is believed to be on his way to KCCA FC with several reports suggesting a deal has already been agreed.

Since their promotion, the Ankole Lions have enjoyed reasonable success in the top flight, finishing in the top four at some point.

Last season, they managed 7th spot with 36 points from 25 games.
