MENGO – The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has resolved to hold an Extra Ordinary General Assembly regarding the COVID-19 relief fund.

This comes barely a day after the FIFA Council approved 1.5bn USD as COVID-19 Relief Fund for its Member Associations, of which FUFA is a beneficiary.

FUFA will be entitled to 1.5M USD and they revealed that part of these funds are ring-fenced for women football.

According to FUFA, there has also been an approval of an interest free loan facility to the FIFA Members up to 35% of the audited books of accounts of their annual revenues. These funds are expected to be disbursed in installments and will undergo the same stringent audit processes of FIFA.

The target of utilization of these funds shall be supporting football to manage the current and post COVID-19 effects to the game in Uganda so that football can return and get better.

“Just like the FUFA President mentioned on various media platforms and while meeting various stakeholders, FIFA was preparing an intervention, notes FUFA Spokesman Ahmed Hussein as quoted by FUFA.com.

“We are glad it was approved and also been vindicated.

“On behalf of the Uganda football community, we wish to thank FIFA for supporting World Football and we will ensure that these funds are utilized in accordance with the rules and the objectives for which they are sent.”

In the recent past, many football stakeholders have been crying out for a relief fund in this period and this will surely come as welcome news to them.
