Uganda produced a breathtaking performance on Saturday as they humiliated Tanzania 5-0 to reach the second round of qualifying for the 2020 U17 Women World Cup.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Ayub Khalifa’s side were magnificent on the day, winning the tie 6-2 on aggregate.

Margaret Kunnihira, Fauzia Najjemba and Grace Aluka each scored once while captain Juliet Nalukenge netted twice in the emphatic victory.

After a frustrating opening 43 minutes, Kunihira broke the deadlock and put Uganda in the driving seat on away goals, off a fierce drive that custodian Aishi Mrisho could not keep out.

For the second time in the tie, Tanzania were trailing but unlike the first leg where they scored twice to win the game, this time Uganda gave them no such chance.

Najjemba soon made it 2-0 on the day with a well taken free kick after Hadijja Nandago was fouled just-outside the area.

Moments later, Aluka’s speculative clearance beat Aishi to find its way into the back of the net to put the tie beyond Tanzania’s reach.

However, it was a strange feeling for everyone with Uganda comfortably in the lead but their top scorer not on the score-sheet.

Nalukenge who has continously bailed Uganda out on so many occasions in the past, had saves her show for last.

She struck twice in three minutes to put the icing on a near to perfect display for Khalifa’s side.

The result means Uganda progresses to the final round of qualifying.

They will now face Cameroon for a spot in the finals’ tournament that will be played in India.

Cameroon registered a huge 10-0 aggregate victory over Sao Tome and Principe in their first round tie.

Uganda’s starting line up against Tanzania on Saturday
