Vipers SC squandered a glorious opportunity to all but seal the Uganda Premier League title as they were held to a 0-0 draw away to Wakiso Giants FC on Friday.

After KCCA FC drew 0-0 with Proline FC on Tuesday, the Venoms could have moved six points clear at the top the ths standings but could not capitalize, taking just a single point for the game played at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

One would again say that Fred Kajoba’s side were lucky to take anything from the game as they played most of it with 10-men following the controversial sending off of top scorer Fahad Bayo in the first half.

Bayo handled an Ayub Kisalita pass while in the Wakiso half on 35 minutes and was left in shock as the day’s center referee Shamirah Nabadda shown him a straight red card without hesitation.

It may be, should have been yellow, according to the book but the decision was not reversed leaving the Venoms with an uphill task of playing with a man less for the remaining 35 minutes.

Before Bayo’s sending off, Vipers looked to be on top of proceedings as they created the better chances.

Bayo (9) looks on as he is sent off by referee Shamirah Nabadda (R) on Friday.

Bayo headed onto the cross bar off Geoffrey Wasswa’s free kick before forcing a save from Wakiso custodian Derrick Emukule.

January signing Paul Mucureezi also missed the target from a good position after some interplay with Innocent Wafula.

Later in the contest, substitutes Denis Mwemezi and Tito Okello combined before the latter headed wide at the near post.

Despite the numerically advantage, Wakiso struggled to curb out openings with their best chance falling to Faizul Anin who saw his effort expertly saved by Fabien Mutombora after collecting from Karim Ndugwa.

The result sees Vipers climb onto 54 points, four ahead of KCCA FC in second place.

For Wakiso, they remain in 10th position with 30 points from 25 games.

In their next fixtures, Wakiso will be away to Express FC on May 6, a day after Vipers hosts Busoga United FC.
