Wakiso Giants FC ensured safe passage to the Uganda Cup round of 16 thanks to a commanding 5-0 victory over MYDA FC at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakissha on Tuesday.
Without their head coach Livingstone Mbabazi who is believed to be on his way out of the club, Wakiso were under the guidance of Steven Bengo on the day.
A brace by defender Hassan Wasswa and a goal each from Amos Muonge, Lawrence Bukenya and substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma did the trick.
The Purple Sharks exerted their superiority from the on-set and thought the had taken the lead on 25 minutes only for Muwonge’s effort to be ruled out for offside.
However, the breakthrough would eventually come at the half hour mark with Wasswa nodding in from a corner.
Three minutes later Bukenya made it 2-0 thanks from a shot from outside the area.
On 68 minutes, Muwonge scored the home side’s third, his second in as many games after scoring the consolation in the 2-1 loss away to Tooro United FC.
Three would become four on 74 minutes as Wasswa headed in his second of the afternoon.
Substitute Sserunkuma then completed the route with his second goal of the season.
This is Wakiso Giants’ biggest win of the competition in their two year existence and it ensures they reach the round of 16 for the second season running.
