Vipers SC vs Onduparaka FC
St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Sunday, 02-02-2020 @4pm
Vipers SC will welcome Onduparaka FC to the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Sunday afternoon.
The Venoms will be desperate for all three points come game time so as to strengthen their grip onto top spot.
Currently, they sit two points ahead of second placed KCCA FC and know that victory will see them enjoy a healthy 5-point lead with 10 games to play.
This will be Fred Kajoba’s second game in charge after replacing Edward Golola just over a week ago.
His first was the 0-0 draw away to Mbarara City FC and he will also want to impress his new employers with victory in his first home game.
Vipers are currently on three match winless run in all competitions.
A 1-0 loss to SC Villa was followed up with a penalty shootout defeat to Kajjansi United in the cup and then the draw with Mbarara.
Speaking ahead of the game, Kajjoba said that all their focus is on Onduparaka and ensuring they win thw league this season.
“Obviously the result in Bombo was not what we anticipated, noted the former Bright Stars FC tactician as quoted by Vipers.com
“It was quite disappointing but we are more positive going into the Onduparaka game.
“We have all our focus in one direction. It is all about the league. We have to challenge and win it.”
Fahad Bayo wobbled off the pitch during the 0-0 stalemate with the Ankole Lions but is fit to face Onduparaka FC. Abraham Ndugwa and Allan Kayiwa were left out of the match day squad in Bombo on Tuesday but the pair will be in contention. Halid Lwaliwa is yet to recover from injury and will thus not be available. Geoffrey Wasswa is expected to skipper the team, again, against the Caterpillars. Siraje Ssentamu is also doubtful but may be back for our next fixture away in Njeru, Jinja against Bul FC. Umar Kyebatala has shaken off a fever that kept him out of the Mbarara City encounter and could make the Match Day squad.
Onduparaka have had a decent season so far and start the day in 4th.
Their last game saw them defeat Busoga United FC 2-1 in what was the first victory of the second round.
They had lost twice and drawn the other of their opening three games.
With players wanting to leave the Arua based and some succeeding in the just concluded transfer window, the team is no longer the one that neutrals fell in love with.
The first meeting between the two teams ended 0-0 in Arua. However, Vipers have won all three of their home meetings with Onduparaka since the first in 2017.
The other games to be played on Sunday @4pm
-Express FC vs Mbarara City FC
-Wakiso Giants FC vs Bright Stars FC
-Proline FC vs Kyetume FC
