Uganda Cup
Wakiso Giants FC vs MYDA FC
Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakissha
Tuesday, 11-02-2020 @4pm
Wakiso Giants FC will be hoping to continue their quest for a first-ever trophy when they take on MYDA in the Uganda Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
The Purple Sharks have only been in existence for 18 months but due to a steady financial muscle, they are expected to challenge for the Cup this season.
Having attained promotion to the top tier last year, things have not be smooth for them as they have continuously struggled.
They are currently under their second head coach after Livingstone Mbabazi took over from Kefa Kisala at the end of last year.
However, Mbabazi is also under pressure and is expected to be fired any time soon.
In their last three games, Wakiso have won none, drawing twice and losing once.
Since Mbabazi took over, they have won just two of the seven games he has been in charge of, one coming in the league and the other in the cup.
Sitting 9th on the league log, 24 points away from top spot, Wakiso know that a cup triumph is their only hope to saving a season that promised so much before the start.
“The Uganda Cup offers an opportunity to win a trophy but for us, the target is to go as far as we can, said Wakiso midfielder Ayub Kisalita ahead of the game.
“We want to win so as to regain our confidence after failing to win our previous three games.
Wakiso will have goalkeeper Derrick Emukule return to the team after missing the game away in Tooro through injury. George William Katende and Duncan Sseninde are doubtful for the game but the rest of the squad is available for selection.
To reach at this stage, Wakiso eliminated Bugoigo Leopards whom they beat 2-0 away from home thanks to a Viane Sekajugo brace.
For MYDA who play in the Regional League, they progressed past the round of 64 via a penalty shootout victory away to Gadafi Integrated.
The other games on Tuesday will see Proline FC host Admin FC at Lugogo while Tooro United FC are away to Kansai Plascon in Mukono.
