Uganda Cup – Round of 32
Proline FC 1(5)-1(3) Admin FC
StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo
Uganda Cup defending champions Proline FC progressed to the round of 16 following a 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Admin FC on Tuesday.
It was a tight affair that saw either side dominate one of the two halves and in the end, it finished 1-1 in 90 minutes.
Diego Kizza handed Proline a first half lead before Admin equalized late in the second (half) through Walter Alele.
In the shootout, Alele would turn into a villain as his effort-the fourth for Admin-was pushed away by Hassan Matovu’s strong right arm.
For Proline, they converted all their spot-kicks with James Begisa, Brian Umony, Kizza, Mato and Mustafa Mujuzi finding the back of the net.
A game of two halves
Proline came into the game confident as they have not lost a Uganda Cup game for over a year.
The defending champions applied all the early pressure and it would not take long before they took the lead.
Having missed from a good chance earlier, Kizza poked home a Mato cross on 12 minutes to calm the Proline nerves.
Despite looking confident in the opening 45 minutes Baker Mbowa’s side created no further clear cut chances to stretch their lead.
In the second half, Admin pilled the pressure, eyeing an equalizer.
Joseph Owino sent a weak free kick on target but it was easily gathered by Matovu before Bassey Marko also saw an effort dealt with by the custodian.
Marko then forced a brilliant diving save from Matovu, moments before Owino sent an effort straight at the shot stopper off an in-swinging free kick.
The equalizer would eventually come at the stroke of fulltime.
Substitute Iddi Babu beat Begisa before lofting in a teasing cross that was headed into the back of the net by Alele to ensure the game heads into penalties.
Proline held their nerves by converting all their kicks while Admin missed one to see the defending champions march onto the next round.
