Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that his squad will include no first team players on Tuesday. Shrewsbury are winless in their last six competitive away games. The visitors have lost three of their last four away, including both games since their comeback against Liverpool. Shrewsbury have, however, scored in seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
The main talking point heading into this FA Cup replay is Jurgen Klopp’s confirmation that no first team players will be involved on Tuesday, with a young squad to be overseen by U23 coach Neil Critchley.
Unsurprisingly, Klopp’s disregarding of the competition while they are so far ahead in the Premier League title race has been a controversial one, and we’re expecting to see a lineup similar to that of their Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
That clash at Villa Park saw the young Reds thrashed 5-0 while the first team squad were away at the Club World Cup. However, Tuesday pits them against an inferior opponent at Anfield, so another humbling defeat isn’t expected.
Shrewsbury did fantastically well to come from behind against Liverpool just over a week ago, but the Blues aren’t in great form overall. They have lost both of their matches since that epic comeback, and just one of their last 10 competitive games has ended in victory.
Away from home they haven’t won since before Christmas, losing three of their six trips away since then. Considering most of these came against League One opponents, they might find breaking out of this winless run a stretch too far even against this weakened Liverpool outfit.
