Vipers SC registered their first victory under Fred Kajoba as they beat Onduparaka FC 1-0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Sunday afternoon.

The Venoms who drew 0-0 away to Mbarara City FC in Kajoba’s first game in charge after replacing Edward Golola, had the day’s captain Geofrey Wasswa to thank as he scored the only goal of the game.

The defender netted his first goal of the season of a freekick after January signing Paul Mucureezi was fouled just outside the area on 56 minutes.

Vipers had other chances to score more but Farook Musisi rattled the cross bar off a Mucureezi lay-off.

Rahmat Ssenfuka and Bobosi Byaruhanga also forced Onduparaka custodian Yusuf Wasswa into decent saves.

Mucureezi who was searching for his second goal as a Venom saw a volley hit the side netting after he was set up by Fahad Bayo’s well cautioned header.

The visitors also had chances to score but failed to capitalize.

The best opening fell to Bashir Bheyo who shot tamely at Fabien Mutombora after he was played in by Jamal Malish.

The three points earned ensure Vipers tighten their grip onto top spot and now move to 46 points for the season.

The three-time league champions are now five points clear of second placed KCCA FC who lost 2-1 away to URA FC on Friday.

For Onduparaka FC, they remain 5th with 30 points from 20 games.

In their next assignments, Vipers will be away to BUL FC next Sunday while Onduparaka welcomes Express to Arua two days prior.
